Words that speak to you

Need some help, but not sure where to start? Maybe a writing consultation is what you need.

A writing consultation is an opportunity for writers to receive expert guidance at any stage in the writing process, from first drafts to final revisions. Writing consultants ask non-judgmental, non-evaluative questions, and offer observations using a pedagogically sound approach based on research. The feedback aims to provide writers with strategies to get that document on track for publication!

Take a look below to find out what to expect from a consult, how to book, and our most frequently asked questions.

FAQ

Who should book a writing consultation?

Anyone who needs a little nudge in the right direction! We serve all levels of experience, from brand new writers in professional and academic programs, all the way to doctoral students writing their dissertation, authors writing (or re-writing) creative works, and professionals developing technical reports.

What can I get help with?

Consultants provide guidance on any and all documents (publications, website content, manuals, theses and dissertation chapters, and research articles for publication). Other examples include scientific abstracts, grant and scholarship applications, and every bit of creative writing!

What types of consultation appointments are there?

There are two types of consultations available: a thirty-minute online dialogue via Zoom and a thirty-minute Written Consultation, which takes place in real time, but not face-to-face. At the end of a Written Consultation, the Writing Consultant uploads your document or template with written commentary for download.
